Jonathan Almond

For NC House

The world is in turmoil. The Biden-Harris Administration is purposely driving our country off a cliff with out-of-control spending, open borders, and skyrocketing inflation that is harming families in Cabarrus County. This is one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime. The Republican-controlled General Assembly has worked hard to lower taxes and make our state business-friendly. I look forward to working with other leaders to do more to have the brightest future for our Cabarrus families and community. With your vote, I am ready to bring my business and financial management experience to Raleigh to fight for the families in District 73!

My Vision

Jonathan Almond

Jonathan has been the Controller of a management group operating 11 franchise restaurants since 2016. He successfully managed the business during times of prosperity and difficult COVID-era shutdowns and recovery.  He is uniquely equipped to use his financial management skills and experience gained while navigating unprecedented spikes in food costs, labor shortages, and economic uncertainty to continue North Carolina’s role as a national leader. Our state can continue to attract business, reduce spending, and lower the tax burdens for all if we continue to follow true conservative principles.

A Vision For The Future

Jonathan Almond

Vote to send me to Raleigh this November so North Carolina can continue to invest in our world-class workforce and booming state economy. These investments, along with wise investments in education and infrastructure and reductions in wasteful spending, will help reduce the tax burdens for all North Carolina families.

On The Issues

Government Overreach

As the government continues to grow, so does its desire to dictate how people live their lives. In recent years we have seen the government tell many of our small businesses they are not essential. They told people they must give up their rights to decide how to protect their health by mandating masks. At one point, they even suggested you could not participate in society without a vaccine that the government decided was “safe and effective”. I will fight to limit government overreach and to keep the power with the people.

2nd Amendment

The Second Amendment protects the First Amendment. The founders knew this and that’s why the constitution reads “The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment is constantly under attack by people who use any tragedy to blame the gun and not the perpetrators! I will fight against any attempts to infringe on our constitutional rights.

Lower Taxes

We pay a heavy tax on our wages and then we pay taxes on what we purchase with our already taxed wages. We also pay taxes on the property we own and have already paid for. With inflation at 40-year highs, families need this money in their pockets more than ever. I will vote NO on any attempt to confiscate more money from hardworking North Carolinians.

Fiscal Responsibility

The government continually wastes and mismanages OUR money. Then they ask for more and more. If you or I mismanaged our family budget as poorly as the government, no one would give our family more or bail us out because we failed. I am an experienced controller with an accounting and finance background and I will put to skills to use to find wasteful government spending. We must stop wasting the people’s money!

Pro-Military and Law Enforcement

Supporting the men and women of service is very important to me! Many generations of my family have served in Military and Law Enforcement. They instilled in me how important they are to the fabric of our country and communities. Protecting the Constitution, our country, and our communities is one of the most honorable things a person can do! Making sure these services are fully funded is a must for me.

Pro-life

The Declaration of Independence states “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The first unalienable right mentioned is LIFE! North Carolina has become a hub for abortion, as surrounding states have reduced or outlawed it. We must do more to protect the lives of unborn children in North Carolina.

Election Integrity

We must have free and fair elections to ensure the government represents the will of the people. I support voter ID, limited early voting, rare absentee by-mail, and election day with paper ballots.

Immigration & Border

We need to close the border, build a wall and remove anyone who came here illegally. We need to do a better job of taking care of the veterans, seniors, and citizens in Cabarrus County before we take care of anyone else. We must stop the Fentanyl and other drugs that are pouring across our borders and killing our people.

Special Education

People with special education needs are some of the most vulnerable individuals in our communities. Making sure they have the resources and support they need to learn and grow is very important. As someone who has twin boys with special learning needs, I can tell you having a strong support system around them in school is so important for their development.

Term Limits

Being a representative of the people in government is a service to the people, not a career. I believe there should not be lifelong politicians. I believe the longer a person is in office, the more likely they become servants of themselves and not of the people. I will support a term-limit bill in the General Assembly.

Parental Choice on Medical Intervention

No government body should have the right to decide what medical intervention your child “has to have” to exist in society, schools, or sports. Whether it’s a mask or vaccinations, the parent should be able to decide what is best for their child, especially if there are harmful consequences that go with those decisions.

School Curriculum

As Lt. Governor Mark Robinson stated, “Students being taught they should hate each other because of the color of their skin has no place in education. Education should be about teaching, not indoctrinating students with a political agenda.” I agree with this and will be a vocal opponent of the Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum in our schools.

Protect Minors

We cannot allow minors or other adults to facilitate genital mutilation hormone therapy on our children. We do not let children join the military, vote, or buy alcohol. This same standard should be applied to a decision that is irreversible for the child. Sex reassignment surgery and other gene therapies should only be available for adults over the age of 18.

About Jonathan

Jonathan Almond was born and raised as a North Carolinian. He spent his first 18 years growing up in the country of Union County. After graduating from Piedmont High School in 2005, he attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance. He met the most wonderful woman on his graduation night and would move to Raleigh, chasing after her! That gamble paid off, as Jonathan and Margaret would be married in 2013!

In 2016, they would be blessed with their first child and star of the show Grace! In 2018, Jonathan and Margaret would be blessed again with twin boys, Jackson and Stafford! When the boys were six months old, work moved them to Cabarrus County. Since moving to Cabarrus County in 2018, Jonathan and his family have grown deep roots in the community! They found their church home at Harvest Community Church in 2020 and have been active in the Republican Party! They have relationships with many business owners in the county! They hope to open a business to serve people in the next couple of years!

Jonathan has been the Controller of a management group that has operated a Smithfield’s Chicken N’ Bar-B-Qs franchise since 2016.  Jonathan helped manage the franchise through unprecedented inflation impacting food costs and labor shortages that have hit many North Carolina small businesses. Jonathan will use these financial business management experiences to help navigate our state through what seems to be unavoidable hard times ahead as our National Debt surpasses 34 trillion dollars. We need North Carolina to find innovative ways to lower spending and tax burdens for all.
